Research & Development

Purpose Built Facility

Primetake’s purpose-built facility allows the team to environmentally test and qualify products for extreme settings. Angelantoni Climatic Chambers are used to mimic atmospheric conditions from -54C to +71C and our ballistic range allows for glass and armour penetration testing. The team can also test to CIP (Commission Internationale Permanente pour l’épreuve des armes à feu portatives) for commercial calibres. Our comprehensive testing procedures also incorporate universal receivers for proof barrels and an Electronic Pressure Velocity Action Time (EPVAT) rig. Our on-site engineering workshop allows the team to adapt and improve upon designs during the testing period, facilitating rapid and cost-effective product design/prototyping. Elite user groups like special operations teams and police units work in a variety of settings and, as such, our products are tested thoroughly to make sure they work effectively whatever the conditions.

In-House R&D Team

Our technical research and development department is made up of a well-established team of subject matter experts. The team’s drive for innovation, combined with their extensive range of specialisms, serves to enhance Primetake’s unrivalled capabilities in the following areas of expertise:

  • Pyrotechnics | Ballistics | Smoke and distraction devices
  • 12 gauge technologies | Ceremonial saluting cartridges
  • Improvised explosive ordnance disposal and demolition
  • Sniper ammunition | Oil flare ignition | Counter drone technology
  • Aviation safety, bird scaring, and wildlife management

New Product Development

Each project is managed through our New Product Development process, which is presided over by our most relevant subject matter expert. The product design methodology follows a Design Manual, which is continually moulded and scrutinised by the Head of Department, as well as the Senior Leadership Team, throughout the project’s journey. All products are carefully designed and rigorously tested to exacting global industry standards.

Technical Support

Alongside Primetake’s quality assurance, we pride ourselves on customer intimacy. Over the years, we have learned to anticipate the demands of our end users and so we are well-versed in delivering comprehensive technical support before, during, and after sales. Our team uses Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE) to constantly monitor our existing products and processes to ensure they are aligned with the needs and wants of our clients. One of our most recent projects, for instance, is to strive to reduce the amount of single-use plastics in our products. Even in these early stages, we have already made significant progress.

Prototypes & Samples

Prototypes and samples are exchanged frequently to keep customers fully involved throughout all stages of the product development process. Our team liaise directly with the client to ascertain their specific requirements (customer intimacy is our value proposition above all), working to adapt and customise products where necessary to ensure they fit the brief.

Customer Engagement

We work tirelessly to build lasting relationships with our client base, making direct face-to-face contact with end users in order to fully assess our customers’ requirements. We take the time to ask intelligent questions and actively listen in order to fully ascertain clients’ needs, ensuring customer satisfaction.

This allows us to incorporate critical performance characteristics into our product range – from ammunition stoppage distances, velocity standard deviation, or enhanced safety mechanisms – and also affords us the opportunity to ask for honest feedback, facilitating continuous improvement.

Technology

As the race for ever more capable technological advancements continues, it is vital – in our field in particular – that our team remains up-to-date on new developments.

Outside of Primetake’s UK facility, our network of agents and representatives located around the globe communicate with clients directly and act as a conduit for technical information and user experience. The insights gathered are fed back into the development cycle to keep us one step ahead of our competitors.

New Developments

Some of our latest technological developments include modifications made to our 12 gauge cartridges; our new counter drone solutions that are cost-effective, highly customisable, and require minimal operation training for users; and our coloured smoke grenades, which our pyrotechnic team are working on to create vivid colour options which can be integrated into any delivery option required.

Underground Firing Range

Our shooting range is able to be configured to different environments to allow us to explore and enhance the effectiveness of our ammunition in challenging circumstances. Such thorough testing means our clients can rest assured that operating conditions outside of their control will not thwart their ability to remain on-target. Ammunition and pyrotechnics are tested in our 3-level subterranean bunker (for example, glass and armour penetration capabilities), and our wind tunnel allows us to test projectile aerodynamics

Climate Testing

Angelantoni Climatic Chambers are used to mimic atmospheric conditions from -54C to +71C. Humidity is often overlooked when it comes to ammunition sourcing but, for special ops teams working in tropical climates, moisture within the air can affect weapon performance and can even risk rendering ammunition unusable. Our Angelantoni Climatic Chambers allow us to replicate these climates, test our products, and adapt our offerings in accordance with our findings.
